FIFA 23 has been out for almost a couple of weeks now and it’s already proven to be one of the most popular titles in the sports genre of video games. Usually the licensed title does some very strong numbers every year, and this time is no exception, but it appears that everyone came out for EA and FIFA’s final outing together. The publisher has revealed that FIFA 23 had the biggest launch in franchise history, logging in a record 10.3 million players within its first week on the market.

“The response from our fans has been nothing short of incredible, and we’re thrilled that our community is playing with their favorite players and teams across FIFA 23 in record numbers, ” stated by Nick Wlodyka, SVP, GM of EA SPORTS FC in the press release. Wlodyka also added that they’re “just getting started” with content and giving players the “most authentic and immersive experience yet.” EA also added women’s clubs for the first time in franchise history, making the experience that much deeper. They also included the extremely popular Ted Lasso character and the fictional AFC Richmond club from the television series of the same name.
The resounding number of players showing up in droves to play FIFA 23 is also more than likely a last hurrah for the series as EA will no longer use the FIFA name in future releases. Those will go by the name of EA Sports FC or something similar starting next year. This was due to a fairly public falling out between the publisher and the governing body in which the latter demanded more than $1 billion every four years for using their name. Regardless, FIFA 23 has come out of the gates with some serious steam, and those player numbers are more than likely going to increase as time goes on.
FIFA 23 is available now for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
