FFXVI DLC and PC Version Now In Development

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida has confirmed two paid DLCs are now in development. With some of the game’s voice actors speaking at PAX West 2023, Yoshida made a surprise announcement from a recorded video message announcing the news for the recently released mainline Final Fantasy game.

Yoshida announced that a free update would be available to all players today, bringing new cosmetics to main characters such as Clive, Jill, and Torgal, along with custom skins to Clive’s sword. After hearing feedback from players and fans since the game released in June, the update also brings quality of life improvements such as reducing the time after a parry where Eikonic abilities can then be activated.

The two exciting news confirmed directly from Yoshida is that a PC version of Final Fantasy XVI is now in development, along with 2 paid DLCs. Speaking of the DLCs which will expand upon the story, Yoshida states, “One thing that came through particularly strongly was how people wanted to see more of Valisthea’s story and spend more time with her inhabitants. To accommodate, the development team has started work on two installments of paid DLC.”

It’s unclear when the PC version will be released, along with the DLC, however, Yoshida noted that he plans on providing more information on both before the end of the year.

Previous installments of the Final Fantasy franchise have seen added DLC story content such as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, as well as Final Fantasy XV which saw a slew of story DLC that all eventually became bundled in the Royal Edition of FFXV.
