Original first-person shooting games, also known as boomer shooters, were some of the most common games during the 90s. Doom is one of the most influential and well-known game franchises; it’s part of this genre and is often referred to when someone is curious about boomer shooters or needs a visual example. This genre is praised for its fast-paced and high-action gameplay.
Modern-day first-person shooters focus on the realism of the subject, like making hiding from enemies necessary to stay alive and progress in the game. Boomer shooters are less focused on realism and aim to make the experience of playing heart-pounding and fantastical.
While this genre was more popular in the 90s, that doesn’t mean there isn’t an audience who still enjoys it. Developer Destructive Creations created Nailcrown, a game with the classic mechanic and feel of a boomer shooter with the enhancement of realistic visuals.
Nailcrown sets you in its dark fantasy universe where you serve a less than honorable necromancer. Progressing through the game’s dark levels, you will piece together his secrets and learn the truth.
This game prides itself on the savagery it offers players to unleash onto the enemies of this nightmarish world. While trying to get through a crowd of enemies in a dungeon that stands in your way, use a gun to blast your way through with high velocity, or use a melee weapon if you are feeling particularly brutal. Whether it be ghouls, trolls, minotaurs, or other medieval creatures, you will receive the satisfaction of creating a path through them with Nailcrown’s dynamic gore system.
Shrines scattered along the map grant you the ability to improve your character to be even more powerful than before. Destructive Creations also include retro weapons “such as the Nailgun, Shotgun and the Lightning-infused Impaler,” swords, and war-hammers.
Share the fun with friends with CO-OP, or take on other players in Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes.
Nailcrown can be added to your Steam wishlist now, but “Brace yourself. Nailcrown doesn’t ask for subtlety – only how much carnage you can unleash before the darkness reclaims you.”
