One of 2021’s greatest entries has finally come to the Steam platform. Hitman 3 launched last week on the largest digital retailer in the market after 1 year timed exclusive agreement to be on the Epic Games Store. The game also came out for the home console market, leaving Steam the last place for it to become available. However, upon its launch last week, it was hit with a barrage of negative reviews, something that continued into this week. According to a majority of the reviews, the negative response is due to the fact that Hitman 3 did not receive any sort of discount when it released, instead coming with the standard $60 price tag that newer titles usually get.
The main crux of the issue here seems to stem from the fact that Hitman 3 has already been out for an entire year, albeit for a different retailer and for the home console market. It appears that some fans were expecting to see a price cut for the title when it made its way to Steam, something that did not come to pass. The reviews seem to follow the same pattern, praising the actual game and all of its features, whilst criticizing IO Interactive for their business practice of not making it cheaper for Steam users. A prime example of this is when Metro Exodus was released one year later with discount for Steam after being on the Epic Game Store, and it seems that fans were expecting a similar approach here.
It also doesn’t help that the game has been discounted at various times across several platforms over the year, including the Epic Games Store. This also applies to the Deluxe Edition which is priced at $90, and the Hitman Trilogy which is $100 on Steam as of this writing. It’s unclear if IO Interactive will address this in any way shape or form, but it does bring up a minor debate of whether publishers/developers should shave off the price tag a bit for titles that have been out for this long and released on another platform. Only time will tell on that one, but in the meantime, Hitman 3 has at the very least released on Steam for PC and is available now.
