Fall Guys to Become Free-to-Play, Available on All Platforms

Mediatonic announced during a livestream today that Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout will be available for free on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Playstation 5, and the Epic Games Store (but disappear from Steam) on June 21. The game will also feature cross-platform multiplayer and progression, allowing new players to easily join their friends on any of their eligible devices.

The 27-minute event, which featured BAFTA Games Awards host Elle Osili-Wood and professional wrestler Xavier Woods, also revealed that current owners of Fall Guys will be compensated for their purchase the soon-to-be free game. According to Lead Game Designer Joe Walsh, they will receive a “Legacy Pack” which includes exclusive in-game outfits and free access to the game’s first premium season pass.

“Essentially a supercharged version of the season pass that we’ve done in our previous seasons, it’s probably gonna be a hundred tiers long” he said. “But it’s worth noting that the free season pass will still have loads of great stuff in it.”

In addition to the new season passes, the livestream gave viewers a short look at what Osili-Wood called the game’s “biggest gameplay update ever.” The update will feature new game modes and obstacles for players to tackle, as well as new costumes – including a full Chinese dragon outfit – for them to buy or unlock. In terms of licensed character costumes, players can look forward to dressing up as SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog, Ubisoft’s Ezio Auditore, and Disney’s Jack Skellington, to name a few.

Although not likely be featured in the June 21 update, a level editor currently in development was showcased, giving fans something else to look forward to in the game’s future.

Those interested in trying out the game for free can pre-register on the official Fall Guys website with an Epic Games account. For every 500,000 users that register, Mediatonic will grant them with free items when the game launches on the Epic Games Store.
