Fable Delayed To February 2027

One of Xbox’s most highly anticipated titles for many is the return of Fable. Everyone was excited when developer Playground Games shared the first look at the game and the announcement that it was going to launch later this year. However, with GTA VI expecting to launch later in the year, Xbox and Playground Games made a business decision and announced the delay of Fable to February 2027.

Fable is a reboot of the beloved franchise. Players will become the hero they want to be and return to the fairytale-inspired land of Albion, where each choice shapes their journey, reputation is everything, and fairytale endings are never guaranteed. During the Developer Direct earlier this year, Playground Games showcased the first official look at gameplay for the Fable reboot, including combat, the beginning of the story, several areas players will explore, and how Playground Games is evolving Fable’s unique role-playing experience.

In the latest episode of the Official XBOX Podcast, XBOX Chief Content Officer and EVP talked about what we can expect next from its portfolio, including why Fable is getting moved. “Yeah, well, just talking about portfolio, to start out, we’ve got so many games for XBOX players to play coming up. We start out with Halo: Campaign Evolved. We go into Minecraft Dungeons II. We’ve got Gears of War: E-Day. Then we go into Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. And then we got more after that.”

“…We’ve talked about Forza Horizon 6 and how the team at Playground is doing really well,” Booty said. “Also doing really well on Fable. The game is in great shape. The team feels really good. We’re excited about where the game is. We want to make sure that that game has a window all to its own, so we are going to move it from this fall to Feburary. And again, we really just want it to have its moment to shine, And related to Fable, we will be seeing more of it in Showcase.”

XBOX Games Showcase is set to take place on Sunday, June 7, which will be followed by Gears of War: E-Day Direct.
