Evolve’s $136 Worth of DLC Draws Controversy

Gamers are outraged by Turtle rock studios new game Evolve, on how they put out $136 worth of  DLC when the game was released, and co-founder Phill Robb had this to say: “You can still get into games with people who wanted to buy them. Hell, you can even set the DLC characters and monsters up as opponents in solo games.” he also added that “there isn’t anything here that forces people to spend more money than they are comfortable with. We feel like all of the Evolve bundles that 2K announced just offer people choices, and having choices isn’t a bad thing.” You can find his whole post on Evolves forums in this link, but make sure you have time to read it, as it’s pretty lengthy.

With gamers being upset about this, it has yet to stop them from playing Evolve. In just its first week alone the game has seen nearly 6 million matches played, with the average match time being about 10 minutes long. So far the longest match was 48 minutes. You don’t have take my word for it though; a picture at the bottom of this article has all the information you could want. It’s nice to know that none of this DLC will prevent people from playing together, so no worries about any DLC that will split the players up.

It’s also worth pointing out that although Evolve’s DLC clocks in at $136 in total, this is the cost of every item if it were purchased individually. Evolve offers DLC packs on certain items, like the Bog Monster Skin Pack that gives players skins for the Goliath, Kraken and Wraith monsters for $7, a $2 discount versus buying all each of the $3 skins individually.

Despite the DLC controversy, Evolve has a lot to offer (even if it will cost you $136) with its unique 4 vs 1 play style and beautiful graphics that can pull you right in. Let us know what you think: Have you or will you be picking up Evolve?
