EVO 2015 set a new record by having 1,926 entrants registered for the Smash 4 Tournament, making it the largest Smash Bros. tournament ever. However, this year EVO 2016 set a new record by having even more players than last year registered for Smash 4.

Although EVO haven’t revealed the exact numbers, we can deduce that it is over last year’s 1,926 entries. While this is the biggest Smash Tournament yet, it isn’t the largest tournament at EVO.
Street Fighter V shattered registration records with over 4,000 contestants, and people are still registering. It’s almost double the number of participants from EVO 2015’s Ultra Street Fighter IV tournament, which set a record of 2,227 entrants. This will be the largest EVO tournament for a main line Street Fighter game yet.
This year’s Smash 4 tournament at EVO should be more interesting than last years, considering that the game has been out for much longer and all the DLC characters can be used in the tournament. Many people thought Bayonetta would sweep the competition this year, but her latest nerf caused her to drop from the top 10 in the tier list all the way to number 24. It’ll be fun to see what happens when EVO 2016 begins on July 15.
