Etherium’s Campaign and Sub-factions Come To Light

Etherium, Focus Home Interactive’s upcoming PC-exclusive futuristic RTS, has released a bevy of new promotional images along with new information on the game’s subfactions and campaign.

A couple of months back we brought you some of the first information on Etherium, Focus Home Interactive and Tindalos Interactive’s new RTS. Now we’re bringing you the latest information about the game’s various NPC factions and the latest details on the title’s single-player campaign.

In the world(s) of Etherium there is but one thing that matters, and that is… well… Etherium. People live and die in pursuit of that most valuable of materials, and you, as the Kwisatz Haderach leader of one of three powerful factions — The Consortium, The Awakened of Intar, or The Vectides — must wrest control of every source of the mineral you can.

Essentially, the story is one part Dune, one part Command and Conquer, and one part Starcraft. The story is relatively non-linear, with players having the freedom to tackle many of the locations in-game in any order they want — all that matters is stomping your opponents into the ground and taking the Etherium for your own. This might not be anything new in the realm of RTSes, but most players aren’t in games of this type for the story: they’re in it for the base building and combat tactics, something that all three factions are ready to offer their own unique takes on.

Of course, there are more forces at work in the world than just these three major factions. In addition to the major groups come three smaller NPC factions, simply called the Raiders, the Parasites, and the Guardians.

All three sub-faction names are fairly self-explanatory. The Raiders are rough and ready people, barbaric in their sensibilities but strong in body and attack. The Parasites are a race of creatures that feed on etherium and travel in swarms, overwhelming their foes. Lastly, the Guardians are a collection of semi-independent automatons left over from a long-forgotten civilization. All three of these smaller factions, or sub-factions as the game refers to them, can be not only fought for control, but potentially even recruited or wrangled into your cause, helping to bolster your own forces and extend your tactical capabilities against your other opponents.

Focus Home Interactive and Tindalos Interactive will be revealing more new details about Etherium at their booth at the upcoming Gamescom in Germany, so keep watching us for more news on the game as details are released.
