Esports Entertainment Group has become the first esports operator to get approved to begin betting operations in the state of New Jersey. On Monday, Jan. 24th, Esports Entertainment Group (EEG) announced that the company received approval for their transactional waiver from the Director of the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and can begin their betting operations in New Jersey. The company also launched its own online betting platform called VIE.gg. According to the press release, VIE.gg will allow people all over New Jersey to place bets on their favorite esports teams in real-time upon its launch with games like CS: GO, League of Legends, and DOTA 2. At the moment, EEG has five-day “soft play” period for VIE.gg, where the website is available at certain hours within the day and has daily registration limits in place.

In the press release, Grant Johnson, the CEO of EEG, shared his enthusiasm for the future of EEG and esports:

“We couldn’t be more pleased to be the first esports-dedicated operator to be granted the right to commence business in New Jersey. On behalf of our entire team, I would like to thank the Division of Gaming Enforcement for their approval of our platform and the trust they have placed in our Company. Global esports betting is estimated to exceed $205 billion by 2027, and we are thrilled to be playing such an important role in this fast-growing market with the launch of our first esports wagering offering in the United States.”

EEG first submitted the transactional waiver for the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement in October 2021. To prepare for the New Jersey betting license, the company opened an office in Hoboken, New Jersey in September, which is their first office located in the United States. With the addition of the new office, EEG currently also has offices in the UK and their main headquarters in Malta.
