Epic Games Store to Lose $330 Million But That’s OK with Tim Sweeney

Recently, it was estimated that Epic Games is going to lose $330 million over providing exclusive games and content for the store. In attempts to become a stronger competitor, Epic Games CEO and founder–Tim Sweeney–has been pushing for the company to create exclusive partnerships with developers. His $700 million idea is to provide a “minimum guarantee” for third-party games and content available only to the Epic Games Store and its players even at a cost. However, the company only gained about $265 million in third-party game sales. While this seems like a huge loss for Epic, this business investment is already paying off with millions for PC players joining Epic Games team.

Epic Games was founded in 1992, and since then has become a competitive video game developer. They are also working on a new way to publish video games, so third-party developers can make changes and updates without interference from Epic Games. With over 160 million players, Sweeney is not overly concerned about the lost revenue especially since the business was estimated to be worth around $17 billion. Even with the company losing quite a bit of money, it is almost insignificant when considering the increasing player base, exclusive games and content, and of course the revenue they will gain from both.

There are several exclusive games already on the Epic Games Store with more to come. One of the most notable titles is Fortnite with over 350 million players as wells a huge financial success for the company. Other titles include Hitman 3, Mortal Shell, Immortals Fenyx Rising, the Kingdom Hearts series, and more. Epic players can expect even more exclusive content and free giveaways over the coming months.
