Epic Announces a New Campaign, Biome and More Coming to Fortnite’s Save the World Mode

In a ‘state of development’ report, the development team for Fortnite‘s Save the World mode announced some changes and updates coming in the near future. The biggest developments are a new campaign, Canny Valley, the first act of which is coming shortly after Save the World’s v5.0 event, and that’s coming next month. Epic promises that Canny Valley “will take you through the Arid parts of the Fortnite world,” bringing players to new locales for exploration.

“The story will answer many questions – was Dr. Vinderman a hero or a villain? What happened to him? Who is “the real Ray”, and where is she? What really is the Storm, and why did it happen?” Epic added. “You’ll also see Lars and his band, “Steel Wool”, Dennis, Penny and all the other characters you love, along with iconic locations and enemies.” The Canny Valley campaign will be rolled out periodically, through multiple acts of content, and the new biome with be arriving alongside it.

Epic also announced it would be addressing requests for “increased variety in both missions and enemy types,” and that the team is in the process of prototyping to that end. Little else was shared for the moment, although the dev team confirmed that two new enemy types are coming in the next few months. In the short-term, Save the World will be getting  a more powerful variant of the Shielder “very soon,” followed by an enemy called “the Zapper.”

Save the World’s v5.0 event is also going to re-introduce “Challenge the Horde” mode. This mode is reportedly going to be the focus of v5.0, and will have players “drop into a map with a pre-built base and battle against waves of enemies, but with limited time to craft weapons, build structures, and lay traps. “This time, Challenge the Horde will also come with reworked difficulty progression and combat, mini-bosses, and better rewards.”
