In very surprising news, the hit 2017 run and gun game, Cuphead is coming to a very interesting new platform. On episode 200 of the Ride the Lightning Tesla podcast, hosted by IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey, Elon Musk himself announced that the game is coming to the Model 3, Model S, and Model X Tesla cars. Musk would even discuss his appreciation for the game, “It’s a cool game. It’s insanely difficult. It’s sadistically difficult. It’s a twisted plot. It’s dark. It looks like some cute little Disney thing and you’re like, ‘This plot is very dark'”
A statement given to IGN from the game’s developers, Studio MDHR, confirmed the news. Maja Moldenhauer, from Studio MDHR, stated “We hope Cuphead can add some classic fun to such forward-thinking vehicles.” It also appears that Tesla approached the studio first about bringing the game to their vehicles. With Musk recently tweeting about porting the Unity engine to Tesla vehicles, and as Unity is the engine that Cuphead runs on, it makes sense that Tesla would want to pursue the game.
While fans of Cuphead will get to enjoy this new platform to experience the game on, unfortunately, the Tesla version won’t be the full game. The Tesla version of the game will only include the “Inkwell Isle One section of the game.” The reason for this is being the of storage limitations of the Tesla vehicles. The game will also only be playable with the use of a USB connected gamepad, so users won’t be able to play using touch controls like other games available on the cars. This is because the game had to have tight controls which a touchscreen wouldn’t allow.
Studio MDHR and Tesla are aiming to release the game this summer. This isn’t the only new platform Cuphead has made its way to either. Earlier this year, the game came to the Nintendo Switch. It will be interesting to see if Studio MDHR keeps this trend up and possibly bring the game to other platforms like PlayStation in the future.
