One of the most anticipated, and widely successful titles of 2022 has achieved yet another milestone. Elden Ring’s wild popularity has seemingly taken over the gaming industry, and that’s putting it mildly. During Bandai Namco’s financial report, which was initially shown by Japanese publication Gamebiz, the publisher revealed that Elden Ring has now shipped more than 16.6 million units worldwide. Since the game only released this past February, that means the title was able to achieve this feat in under six months.
With these mammoth numbers, that makes Elden Ring the most successful individual title in From Software’s history. We say individual because as a whole, the entire Dark Souls franchise has sold a combined 27 million copies in its lifetime. This also completely dwarfs their other singular title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which shipped roughly 5 million units by the Summer of 2020. This is also a massive jump in sales since the previous numbers in March where they sold more than 12 million units, and that was under a month of the title being available.
Quite frankly, it’s not all that surprising to see these numbers for Elden Ring as the game already had a historically high anticipation wait that boiled over for the better part of three plus years. It also helped that the devoted fanbase of the SoulsBorne titles was also frothing at the mouth to get their hands on this entry. Bandai Namco and From Software’s patience and dedication has paid off huge here, and it’s more than likely that those numbers are going to increase exponentially before the year is done.
Elden Ring is available now for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC.
