Just as shows and movies in the anime style would be collaborated on and pioneered as the style made its way around the world, JRPG games have also made fans out of many players and developers. As a result, Midgar Studio has combined the talents of veteran Japanese developers and a French studio to bring gamers Edge of Memories. The upcoming action RPG with an anime art style recently received both a release date and an accompanying trailer showing new aspects of the gameplay and story.
The trailer begins with the main character preparing to fight a monster alongside her ally before being overcome by a mysterious corrosion. The game’s Steam page identifies the main character as Eline, a soul whisperer on a mission to stop the corrupting force from converting more living things into abominations. The trailer’s early encounter is revealed to foreshadow gaining the dark power to control the corrosion within herself and use its power for good.
Later on, fans get a glimpse at the combat in Edge of Memories. In order to succeed against the corrosion, Eline will put together a team of companions that will fight alongside her. Players will then be responsible for choosing the best teammate for a fight and find the best way to combine attacks with them. In the second half of the trailer, a servant of the corrosion taunts Eline, leading to her transforming into her berserker form, capable of great destruction for good or bad. The trailer ends with a few scenes of the characters exploring the main setting of Avaris, passing by lush forests and fiery caverns.
With so many developers around the world innovating on styles and traditions put forward by others, unique blends of quality are sure to emerge. During the demo period, many players of Edge of Memories expressed excitement with the game’s direction. The final product will be available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
