Part of the Convergence Games Showcase’s October 8th releases, was a Steam Playtest Date Reveal and Gameplay Trailer for Echograph, a game by Pappy’s Pipe Dream where you return to a haunted house. As per the reveal trailer, the game’s currently playtesting!
The protagonist “Layla,” gets some very vital information from her aging grandmother, who’s rocking herself and her pet cat, in a dimly lit room. “Calder Manor is no mere house, Layla” “It lives,” “It whispers” “It digests.” We then see Layla in the Manor with an unwelcome guest, a ghost moving right towards her. Some ghosts can talk, as Layla meets and communicates with a suited ghost figure about the manor, which she seems to be investigating. In another part of the Manor Layla is surrounded by three different ghosts, and none of them look to be interested in her safety or life.
She takes out a Camera and takes a picture of one of the ghosts, then a pair of ghosts, the shots seem to confuse them and they aren’t able to move, they additionally back away in fear. Layla seems to focus on getting the ghost’s face centered in the photograph as that might be a key part of the camera’s ability. She continues adventuring the Manor, setting alight a dead body. There’s even a location system to aid her movement. More ghosts appear, and this time Layla misses her shot, due to the ghost spinning in circles, the ghost then shakes her terribly and she seems to die. Layla is able to interact with some items like a “Record” and chooses what to do with it. The last of the warning messages play, a sinister “welcome home” as Layla embarks inside this Manor. A ghost on all fours walks towards Layla, her camera’s open, and she tries to get a picture of it but she’s not successful, the ghost ends up reaching her, and stretching its long arm towards her with a horrifying smile.
