Echoes of Mana Gets Shut Down

Square Enix has shut down yet another one of their mobile games this year: Echoes of Mana. The announcement of the mobile game’s closure was made back in February of this year with the game’s services ending Monday, May 15th, 2023. Echoes of Mana has been rendered completely inaccessible to all players worldwide.

Earlier this year, Square Enix had also shut down the mobile game Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. Now fans were disappointed that another of the company’s inventory had been swiped from them. Echoes of Mana was the newest launch of the Mana series which elated many devoted fans worldwide. Though players had originally had hopes for the mobile game not to come to an end, they are satisfied with the way that it came to its conclusion. The story line was given a nice conclusion and all of their favorite characters set them off with a hearty farewell. Echoes of Mana had only launched a year prior and had such a short life before Square Enix decided to shut down its servers.

In a twitter post from the official Echoes of Mana account featured some beautiful art of Mousseline the faerie thanking everyone who had supported and played their game. A notice from Square Enix stated that the reason they were stopping the services for Echoes of Mana was due to it being difficult to maintain the app experience, so they decided it would be best to cease the services instead.

The mobile game was a free-to-play action gacha Japanese role-playing game where players controlled a series of characters who explored various locations, defeating enemies, and building up experience. In addition, the game introduces original characters to extend the roster and expand upon the Mana universe. The premise of Echoes of Mana was that the original characters would venture through past Mana games and worlds in order to obtain the Mana sword. Fans of the Mana series were able to play as beloved original characters who hadn’t made game appearances in over thirty years.

The Mana series started back in 1991 with the release of Final Fantasy Adventure on PlayStation which served as a spin-off from the existing Final Fantasy series. Since then, the Mana series captured the hearts of many players with its compelling plot, lovable characters, and turn based gaming mechanics. With the exclusion of Echoes of Mana, there are fourteen entries in the series with nine of them having mobile releases.
