EA’s Free-to-Play “Skate” Gets Early Access in 2025

Since the announcement of its development 4 years ago, EA now says early access for the new Skate game will be available early in 2025.Although the early access is set for that release date, it’s unclear whether or not this will be a public release or if it will be a limited pool of players. This will hopefully be cleared up as they state more details will be released in the upcoming months.

The game development team at Full Circle started sharing details about the project two years ago with play testing and gameplay footage being released to the public as well as announcing it would be completely free-to-play with only “minor” micro-transactions that wouldn’t limit the gameplay behind paywall. A year later, the team revealed more details about the actual gameplay, discussing a challenge mode, Pop-Ups which includes more co-op gameplay such as tag, Community Events that will have players rotating in and out of gameplay, sounding similar to Park pick up games in the 2K Basketball franchise, and Throwdowns which will act as more of a PVP mechanic.

The seems to center itself more around inclusion and community interaction. In the video above, the development announced 3 months ago that they had begun to let play testers invite friends to play with them. They also announced in the same video that they are making the available on all platforms including mobile and will be capable of cross-play. The game embraces player interaction as they mention being able to do things like discover and create a “line” or a sequence of tricks that you can then send to your friends to challenge them.
