EA Sports has begun the process of separating themselves from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Initially spotted by MauroNL on X, and then reported by Video Game Chronicles, the company has officially delisted all of the previously available EA FIFA titles in their entire catalog, seemingly without warning. This also comes just a few days before the successor to that franchise, EA Sports FC 24, is set to launch on September 29, 2023. This was more than likely done to ensure that any and all fans of the series will only be able to purchase the newest entry of the EA franchise when it comes out.
As we can see in the post above, FIFA’s 14-23 can no longer be purchased an any digital storefront. This includes the Microsoft Store, PlayStation Network, and Steam, the world’s largest PC library. The two exceptions are FIFA 22 and FIFA 23 which can only be accessed via the EA Play subscription service. In short, unless you own all of these titles already on any of the aforementioned storefronts, you are now unable to obtain them digitally.
The very public split between EA and FIFA has been well documented. It started when EA CEO Andrew Wilson’s comment in regards to keep using the FIFA name was up for discussion, and also coming out in not-so-good way for the latter. Eventually, discussions broke down, and EA announced that they will no longer use the FIFA name on future sports titles, and will instead rename them to EA Sports FC. EA has not made any official comment in regards to the sudden removal of so many titles, and likely won’t anytime soon as they prepare for the impending release of EA Sports FC 24 which launches this week on September 29, 2023.
