EA Lays Off Staff Across All Battlefield Studios Teams Including Criterion, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios

Last year saw Battlefield’s biggest launch in the franchise’s history with Battlefield 6. With the overall success, you would think that nothing would be happening to Battlefield Studios, but unfortunately, at the moment, the video game industry is extremely volatile with thousands of developers getting laid off over the past few years. Now, EA has laid off an unknown number of developers from across all of the Battlefield Studios teams, including workers at Criterion, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios.

EA told the individuals impacted that the layoffs are taking place as part of a “realignment” across the Battlefield Studios, as the team continues supporting Battlefield 6. All four studios will remain operational.

A EA spokesperson told IGN: “We’ve made select changes within our Battlefield organization to better align our teams around what matters most to our community. Battlefield remains one of our biggest priorities, and we’re continuing to invest in the franchise, guided by player feedback and insights from Battlefield Labs.

Following its strong launch, the player count dropped 90% in the new year. Despite this, Battlefield Studios has been making updates to the game. They delayed the launch of season 2 for extra time to polish and improve based on player feedback, and most recently shared an update for what’s coming for the rest of season 2, which will bring in a shift towards low visibility and close-quarters combat, stealth, and teamwork.
