EA Announces Plans to Delist Several Battlefield Titles, Mirrors Edge Will Remain Available

EA has announced via a post on their site that they plan on delisting, or sunsetting three classic Battlefield entriesBattlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company, and Battlefield Bad Company 2 will all be officially delisted on all digital markets, and have all of their online servers shut down. This process will commence next month on April 28 and will be finalized near the end of the year on December 8, 2023 with the sunset of the online servers. While this is unfortunate for a lot of fans, the entire situation was originally much, much worse. When EA originally posted this on their site, there was an additional title in the group that was planned on being delisted, the very much beloved Mirrors Edge.

The addition of Mirrors Edge being removed sent a chain reaction of anger in the video game community, with several people calling for EA to reconsider removing it completely from all storefronts. However, it was revealed that EA never intended to remove the title at all. Apparently, Mirrors Edge’s inclusion on this list was a complete accident. Once EA realized what was going on, they quickly moved to fix the post and tweeted that it had been updated, adding that they “currently have no plans to remove Mirror’s Edge from digital storefronts.”

EA’s quick fix on the issue seems to have calmed the community down for the time being. Still, the fact remains that Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company, and Battlefield Bad Company 2 will all go through the long process of sunsetting. It’s important to note that this doesn’t mean that the titles will become unplayable. Rather it only means that you will no longer be able to utilize any of the online functions that they feature. You’ll still be able to play offline and the single player campaigns, albeit only for Bad Company and Bad Company 2 as 1943 was an online-only title.
