EA Announces New Studio Hazelight

Last night The Game Awards 2014 took place in Las Vegas, Nevada for the first time since Spike TV decided to no longer continue with the award show. The event was highly anticipated by publishers, gamers, and developers alike. Several exciting announcements were made during the broadcast from upcoming projects to teaser trailers. EA games had an announcement of their own to make last night when they debuted behind the scenes footage of the new gaming studio Hazelight.

Hazelight is an independent developer studio founded by Josef Fares. He has made several feature length films and is best known for his work on the critically acclaimed game, Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons. The game starts off with two brothers who seek the Tree of Life to collect water for their ill father. Along the way the brothers encounter many obstacles and challenges to complete their journey. Players operate both brothers simultaneous by the controllers’ joysticks and are constantly interacting with the world around them.

Currently, the new founded studio is working on an untitled project that will be published by EA.

”The reception of Brothers was overwhelming, I am so proud of what the game has accomplished. Hazelight is a studio that I have started together with the core team from Brothers and we are very excited to create a new experience. I am also very happy about our collaboration with EA, they really love the concept and Hazelight has full creative control. I can’t say much about the new game yet but I can tell you that it is a new IP that is totally different from Brothers in both style and setting.”

While the trailer does not reveal much about the unnamed project it does show a short clip of what they currently have in store. If there is anything we can gather from the teaser, it is that Hazelight’s animation and artwork will be beautifully mastered for their upcoming game. Please visit Hazelight’s website for more information on their studio and games.
