E3 Shows Off Tales of Arise and its New Look for the Series

This week at E3 has been full of exciting reveals and Tales of Arise is notably something fans will be very excited for. Tales games have launched fairly often on all consoles with even remastered editions like Tales of Vesperia and Tales of Symphonia.  Nevertheless, Tales of Arise’s reveal trailer undoubtedly shows that the series is going in a new direction and boy does it look pretty.

Information of Tales of Arise was reportedly leaked days before and had people talking. Xbox’s briefing and the reveal trailer shortly after confirmed that the game will be released sometime in 2020. The game’s trailer shows a new look for the series as well as a small glimpse of new gameplay mechanics that will be in the game. Tales of Arise is said to take advantage of the very popular Unreal Engine 4 and the end results are absolutely gorgeous. The character models are crisp and clean and have smooth natural movements in combat and in cutscenes much like a real anime.

The combat is said to have traditional mechanics to the series but also has some new tricks up its sleeve. In most of the series, players control their characters on a linear plane in combat viewing their character from the side like a fighting game. In Tales of Arise, combat seems to take place behind the character almost like Devil May Cry or Dark Souls. There is even a dodge roll mechanic shown off which looks very refreshing.

The trailer also reveals a small amount of the plot that the world of Tales of Arise will revolve around in a small synopsis.

On the planet Dahna, reverence has always been given to Rena, the planet in the sky, as a land of the righteous and divine. Stories handed down for generations became truth and masked reality for the people of Dahna.

“For 300 years, Rena has ruled over Dahna, pillaging the planet of its resources and stripping people of their dignity and freedom. Our tale begins with two people, born on different worlds, each looking to change their fate and create a new future.” One protagonist from the story looks like your typical sword wielding knight. The other seems to be a woman who wields a sci-fi type weapon. These two worlds clashing could make for an exciting story.

Tales of Arise will release sometime in 2020 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Keep your eyes peeled for new information right here on Mxdwn Games.

Nathan Arquiette: Mom and Dad would never buy me a gaming console growing up, so I bought my own Dreamcast when I was 10 years old. Ever since then my passion for gaming went wild. Why watch a movie or read a book when you can take part in the plot playing a game was my philosophy. "Video games rot your brain" but I had a 10th grade reading level in the 6th grade all thanks to RPG's. Talking and writing about games is something I will never get tired of.
