E3 2021: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 Will Take the Sky in 2022

Long-awaited footage of the sequel Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was shown during Nintendo’s E3 2021 livestream on Tuesday afternoon. The company revealed a teaser for the game that showed the main protagonist Link taking the action to the sky above Hyrule. In this installment, Link will not only be able to battle on land, but now he will be able to fly to islands located far above the Earth. With the upcoming title releasing in 2022, there’s a lot riding on the sequel to be just as great as its predecessor. Not only did the trailer show us Link’s new hairstyle, it also gave Zelda fans a sneak peek into Link’s new powers. The opening scene of the cinematic trailer begins with Link falling into an abyss. We then see Link skydiving through the sky, floating above the clouds of Hyrule. This shot gives players a first real look at Link’s new corrupted arm that is appeared to be infused with some sort of red goop, the same red goop from the trailer’s opening section. The new arm looks to be infected by the mysterious goop, turning his “normal” arm into a cross between a robotic arm and a type of Sheikah technology from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This new arm seems to be the source of Link’s new powers.

Notably, the trailer also shows that this gameplay is going to be a lot different from its previous installment as we don’t see the infamous Sheikah Slate at all. Instead, Link’s magic is now coming from this infected arm, you can the arm in action when Link uses a new power: the ability to go through solid ground.

Towards the finale of the trailer, players see a puddle of water reverse into a rain drop and fly into the sky. Then, leading with his magical arm, Link flies up through the air and dives through the ceiling. Insinuating that this is how Link will prepare for battles in the sky. As we look into these new powers, players can see that they seem more powerful in this sequel. Although, we must wait to see if the arm is going to be equipped with powers from the last sequel like: Magnet, Remote Bomb, and Cryonis.

Aside from powers, the teaser also gives us a look at the new and returning enemies and allies in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Bokboblins and Moblins are still a part of the new sequel’s gameplay, but a new addition appears to be some kind of stone statue. It is unknown if these statues will prove to be an enemy or an ally for our hero Link.

In addition, Link is going to have some new weapons added to his repertoire. While battling some enemies in the trailer, Link uses an arm that is attached to a flamethrower, the non-corrupted arm that is.

These exciting new details from the trailer teaser are just the beginning for this beloved franchise and its new sequel. As the release gets closer, more  information about Link’s new journey and new powers is sure to be revealed by Nintendo.
