The next DLC fighter for Super smash Bros. Ultimate has been revealed, and it looks like Kazuya from the Tekken series is ready to battle. Nintendo showed off plenty of new games during their direct, but they also made sure to satisfy Smash Bros. fans with brand new 3rd party character to add to the ever expanding roster. As a series that’s been around since 1994 and helped revolutionize 3D fighters, Tekken is the perfect series to be represented in Smash Bros. Fans had speculated that a Tekken character could be added to the game since Heihachi, another classic character from the series, was added as a Mii costume, and now it’s official. Kazuya will be the eleventh character to be added through DLC and the 81st character to be included in the game, expanding smash’s massive roster even further. Check out his reveal in the tweet below.
Kazuya is nothing to scoff at either, boasting dozens of classic moves to pummel any who stand in his way. He has both fast multi-hit attacks and powerful single-hit strikes, as well as everything in between, each crafted after moves that fans of Tekken are sure to recognize. The trailer also revealed some of Kazuya’s alternate skins, including a snappy suit to pound your foes in style. Speaking of alternate skins, the footage shown off during Nintendo’s E3 Direct even seems to show off a form change for Kazuya as well, allowing him to tap into his demonic bloodline and shift into a monstrous new form.
It’s unclear how to use this ability or what it adds to the character, but recent DLC figher Sephiroth boasts a similar mechanic through his single wing, which only appears after he takes a certain amount of damage but greatly increases his attack, changes some of his special moves and gives him an extra jump: All of which are more than possible for Kazuya to recreate (especially after seeing those impressive wings).
Kazuya’s release date hasn’t been revealed just yet, but on June 28th we’ll get another deep look at the character and his diverse mechanics presented by Mr. Sakurai himself, so stay tuned for more updates. Now that Kazuya has been revealed, only one spot remains on the fighter’s pass, so if your favorite character isn’t in just yet, keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned to Mxdwn for more on E3 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
