E3 2014: More Gameplay Footage Revealed for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

It’s Day 3 of E3 2014 and as it comes to a close today, The Pokémon Company International had yet again uncovered some more information for us and has also released an all-new trailer for Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, which launches in America on November 21, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS. There was some official game art and screenshots also released. The trailer features the new Mega-Evolved Pokémon that include Mega Sceptile, Mega Swampert, and pictured below, Mega Diancie, plus scenes from what you will be taking on, as you adventure through the Hoenn region.

Players in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire both begin in the Hoenn region’s Littleroot Town. Hoenn is made up of a main island that stretches widely from east to west, along with countless small islands that are surrounded by deep blue sea. Even though the live volcano is constantly steaming, the green-cover island of  the Hoenn region is full of rich diversity of nature and an array of Pokémon and people who live there in harmony.

As many Pokémon games, you will be able to choose to be either a male or female character, and you will be traveling in this special region of Hoenn in two different bikes of your selection, whether it be the Mach Bike (right side), which is geared towards speed and going over steep slopes, or you can choose the Acro Bike (left side), which is used for hopping over narrow bridges and going up stepping stones.

At the beginning, you will need to choose your first companion Pokémon from the starters that include, Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip. Treecko is a Grass-type pokemon, who later evolves into Grovyle and then Sceptile. Torchic is a Fire-type Pokémon and becomes a fighting type as well once it evolves into Combusken and then into Blaziken. Finally, there is Mudkip, who is a Water-type Pokémon that begins to become Ground type when it evolves into Marshtomp and then into Swampert.

You can watch the gameplay footage that was released today, below:

As you can see from the trailer above, trainers both male and female will be equipped with a Mega Bracelet set with a Key Stone. Though for a Pokémon to achieve its Mega Evolution form, you need both the Key Stone and the Pokémon’s Mega Stone, and that when you can finally have access to use Mega Evolution in a battle. In today’s announcement we learn about Mega Sceptile, Mega Swampert and a Mega Blaziken that can learn a Flying-type move.

  • Mega Sceptile gains the Dragon type through Mega Evolution, making its Dragon-type moves more powerful. It also gains the Lightning Rod Ability, which absorbs damage from Electric-type moves to raise its own Special Attack.
  • Mega Swampert gains an improved Attack stat through Mega Evolution, which makes it even more fierce when using the Fighting-type move Hammer Arm. Mega Swamperts also gains the Swift Swim ability, which doubles its speed when the weather is rainy.
  • Mega Blaziken, we saw this Pokémon in Pokémon X and Y, it gains some new abilities through Mega Evolution, in addition to its increased Attack. It has the Speed Boost ability, which allows it to be faster for every passing turn, making the powerful Flying-type move Brave Bird, even more fierce in Pokémon battles.

Depending on which version you get, whether Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, your character will be facing two different evil organizations while traveling the Hoenn Region. In Pokémon Omega Ruby, you meet Maxie who is the leader of Team Magma, and they seek to seize more power and expand the landmass in the Hoenn region. While in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire you will be meeting Archie who is the leader of Team Aqua, and their plan is to raise the oceans that are all around the Hoenn Region. As you play, you will be brought into the conflict that these two teams bring, but the story is based on which version you play. You can see below the two leaders, Maxie is the one on the left and Archie is the one on the right.

Every Pokémon game, you get to befriend at least one, two, or more at the beginning of the journey. This time Players will get to befriend Steven (below), a mysterious and elegant young man, who is interested in collecting rare stones. He will be lending you a hand to find out the true story behind the origins of Mega Evolution and the Legendary Pokémon.

As you saw both in the very first picture and the gameplay footage that was shown above, there is yet another Pokémon that was revealed today. When you transfer your Mythical Pokémon Diancie from Pokémon X or Y into Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire, it can Mega Evolve in battle after obtaining its Mega Stone. When Diancie becomes Mega Diancie, can use the Fairy-type move Dazzling Gleam, which deals great damage to the opponent by unleashing a powerful beam of light. When you are in Double Battle, Mega Diancie’s Dazzling Gleam will allow it to strike both Pokémon.

More details on how you can get Diancie for your copy of Pokémon X or Y will be announced soon.
