E3 2013: Dead Rising 3 Is More “Realistic”

Who needs color when you have grey, brown, and fire?

Capcom Vancouver has announced that the next entry in the Dead Rising franchise will be aimed more at the Call of Duty crowd. Dead Rising 3, the sequel to a game that embraced chaotic fun by letting you whack zombies with a gumball machine, is taking a turn for the mature and the realistic. Additionally, Dead Rising 3 will be an Xbox One exclusive, because they deserve each other.

Along with a change in art style from colorful and cartoony to muted and grim, gameplay is being reworked as well. The time constraints and schedules of the previous games are gone and the zombies are much more of a threat. There’s also integration with Kinect, allowing you to yell at your TV to distract zombies, and Smartglass, letting you find items or call in airstrikes with your mobile device.

It looks like there is also a new setting, as well as a new protagonist named Nick. In fact, it seems like the only features intact from the previous games are weapon crafting and shuffling hordes of zombies– and the name. Glad to know Capcom has such faith in their games.
