One of the strengths of video games is the ability to place characters in fun and unique situations and allowing players to figure it out from there. This becomes even more impactful when the characters are familiar, either through other games or from outside material. Recently, the Dumb Ways to Die team has expanded the initial concept into a variety of different games of varying genres. The latest of these games, Dumb Ways to Build, was just announced as a co-op adventure game where the main obstacle for players is the physics engine and their own creativity while navigating it.
In the announcement trailer for Dumb Ways to Build, the recognizable designs from the original Dumb Ways to Die make a reappearance, this time sporting a new 3D look. Their construction project runs into hurdles as each of them is forced to rely on the others to hold up walkable objects in order to move forward and upward. The Steam page confirms the possibilities of being able to pick up anything and use it as a platform. In accordance with the game’s name, players will also be able to build using the pieces by attaching them to walls or stacking them together.
Contributing to the chaotic nature of the game and in accordance with the reputation of the series, death is likely and encouraged during construction. Miscommunication between teams of up to four can lead to player plummeting to their deaths, with betrayals even encouraged to add to the experience. These interactions will all exist within the setting of missions called Crisis Jobs that each sport unique hazards and challenges.
Given just how many games feature death as a punishment for failure, it is no surprise that Dumb Ways to Die is able to find success with so many different styles of game. Players will have the chance to attempt to make it through with friends when Dumb Ways to Build releases on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation on September 10, 2026.
