Dumb and Fat Games’ Wandersong Comes to Switch and PC Next Year

Dumb and Fat Games, the studio behind Coin Crypt and Super Goo Goo has a new and upcoming title Wandersong, a whimsical adventure game full of music and colors. The game was originally project on Kickstarter in 2016, and reached a little over its $18,000 goal with $21,936 pledged. With a more concrete launch date, Nintendo released a new announcement trailer for the Switch version of the title, showcasing battle features, music, characters and more.

Wandersong features beautiful music by Gordon McGladdery who has worked on Rogue Legacy and Viking Squad, and Em Halberstadt who has worked on Night in the Woods. The game has quite a colorful art style featuring a wide array of unique side characters, monsters, and backgrounds all in 2D. Although the art is simple in some scenes, characters show a lot of emotion, expressions, and actions through exaggerated movements and fun dialogue.

Players will take on the role of “a lowly bard tasked with finding the pieces of a mysterious melody called the Earthsong, which is said to be able to preserve the planet.” Singing joyful songs is all well and good but the stakes are high; if the bard fails his mission, the world will end as the song Goddess resets existence. Players must use the bard to overcome many musical obstacles and fight strange enemies, using his singing voice as the main tool on his quest to save the world. The bard’s voice appears as a color wheel representing different notes while in use and his songs help him run faster, jump to very high places, help bands with their debuts and even defy the laws of gravity. Some characters offer to help the bard on his journey even if they don’t like his music, such as the blue-haired witch that follows him around in the trailer.

Those who love fun, lighthearted, and colorful games can look forward to adding Wandersong to their collection next year. The game will be released for the Nintendo Switch, Mac, and PC.
