Dredge Mobile Port Faces Delay, But December Beta Keeps Hopes Afloat

Dredge is an indie horror adventure that follows a fisherman as his ventures at sea grow increasingly Lovecraftian. Developed by the New Zealand-based Black Salt Games and published by Team 17, the game was originally released on March 30, 2023. Dredge achieved great success following its launch, surpassing the developer’s original expectations of selling 100,000 units by the end of the year. The game passed that number within the first 24 hours of its launch. Mobile gamers have eagerly awaited Dredge’s arrival on iOS and Android devices, but the wait will now last longer than originally expected.

Dredge throws players into the town of Greater Marrow where they play as a lone fisherman selling to the townsfolk. Although the game appears like a fishing simulator at a glance, players discover dark secrets as their ventures at sea go awry. Instead of catching regular fish, players begin encountering nightmarish creatures from the ocean’s depths and are eventually plagued by unfathomable Lovecraftian beings. Players must keep their mind intact as they fish in the murky waters of Greater Marrow every day.

Dredge’s mobile release date was announced as December 18, 2024, this October. As the date approaches, however, it appears that Black Salt Games requires more time to fully translate the expansive world of Dredge into a mobile format. This news may be disappointing to mobile gamers who planned on playing the game through the holiday season, but delays like this are understandable when adapting large-scale games for smartphone platforms.

The mobile port is now expected to launch some time in February 2025. Fortunately, Black Salt Games has opened signups for a new closed beta alongside this delay. Players who are especially eager to get their hands on the game can sign up for the new closed mobile beta of Dredge using this official Google form.

Dredge is currently available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store and App Store, offering players an exclusive starting rod. Both of Dredge’s current DLCs, Pale Reach and The Iron Rig, will be available on the mobile version as in-app purchases. The mobile version of Dredge will sell at the same price as the PC/console versions at $24.99. Apple users, however, will have the chance to try it out early thanks to a free demo featuring the game’s first area.

While many video games are available only to those who can afford expensive consoles and computers, mobile games are designed for the average person.
