Veteran Japanese game designer and director Hideaki Itsuno will be leaving Capcom after 30 years. Itsuo announced his departure in a statement on his X/Twitter account, thanking fans for their support and giving them a hint on his future plans.
“At the end of August 2024, I will be leaving Capcom after 30 years and five months. Thank you for your long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for. I hope you will continue to support Capcom’s games and characters..” said Itsuno.
While it’s unknown where he will be moving next, Itsuno revealed that he will be developing a new game starting September. Hopefully, details on this new title will be revealed in the months to come. Regardless, Itsuno hopes to create games “as memorable, or even more memorable” than the ones that he’s made before. So, whatever this new game may be, it certainly will be a fun time.
“…From September, I will start developing a new game in a new environment. I hope to create fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far. Please stay tuned for my next creation.”
Itsuno began his time with Capcom in 1994 and has been a major contributor in the development of some of Capcom’s biggest franchises. Itsumo is most well known for being the director of Dragon’s Dogma and Devil May Cry 2 through Devil May Cry 5. Dragon’s Dogma 2 was his last directed game with Capcom.
Fans took to social media thanking Itsuno for his work and wishing him well shortly after the announcement. Despite many being crushed about his departure, most are looking forward to seeing his next project.
