Co-developed by Square Enix and KLabGames, Dragon Quest Smash/Grow has announced that pre-registration will open on Tuesday, March 17, and will be published by Square Enix on iOS and Android sometime in 2026. Players interested in pre-registering can do so through their respective app stores ahead of the 2026 launch.

The roguelite RPG features combat that involves rushing through linear levels, battling waves of enemies, and utilizing the series’ signature Coup de Grâce attacks to destroy enemies. Between encounters, players can choose buffs called “Blessings” that upgrade their skills, altering their playstyles and strategies. The game features both a story mode and a co-op mode, with the co-op experience receiving positive feedback from beta testers. An auto-farming feature was also announced based on beta feedback.

The Closed Beta Test ran from October 14–21, 2025, with 30,000 spots available selected by lottery. The dev team published a beta feedback report afterwards. According to the official report, the majority of players responded positively to gameplay and their likelihood to install at launch. It was praised for its deep mechanics and its potential for substantial long-term enjoyment. The dev team has confirmed plans to adjust the Blessing characteristics to include more Dragon Quest flavor, improve the UI, and enhance the co-op experience. Minor complaints included the limited number of daily Quick Quests, the Memory edit UI, and visual clutter from Blessing effects later in runs.

Dragon Quest Smash/Grow is another welcome addition to a franchise with serious momentum right now. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake launched in November 2024, selling over 2 million copies in just over 20 days. Square Enix followed that up with Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, and most recently launched Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined in February 2026. The franchise has now sold 95 million units worldwide, and has hinted that several announcements are planned for Dragon Quest‘s 40th anniversary on May 27, 2026.
