Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Launch Breaks Records, Becomes EA’s Biggest Single-Player Launch On Steam

Ever since Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s official reveal earlier this year, there has been many in the video game community who has criticized the game’s look and feel, saying that the series seems to have lost the dark fantasy element that many enjoy. That criticism stayed till launch with many criticizing developer BioWare and the game for how they distributed review copies and some of the decisions that you can make. Regardless of everything up till now, all of the issues many believed would result in a poor launch didn’t matter. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is now EA’s biggest single-player launch on Steam and has broken BioWare’s concurrent player count record.

When the game launched, Dragon Age: The Veilguard took the top stop on Steam’s Top Sellers list knocking off Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.The game reached peak of  70,414 concurrent players. Within 24 hours, the game 70, 414 concurrent players. In comparison, the previous high player count was Star Wars: Jedi Survivor which reached a peak player count of 67, 855. Dragon Age: The Veilguard beat out Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’s highest player count of 59, 817 which was BioWare’s biggest concurrent player count up till now.

EA CEO Andrew Wilson talked about the positive reception and potential successful launch of Dragon Age: The Veilguard prior to the game’s release in the latest EA Earnings Call.

“BioWare has rallied around what made BioWare a fan-favorite studio and a fan-favorite brand and the types of games they make – incredibly rich worlds, incredibly nuanced characters, really powerful and compelling stories with comaraderie and friendships and relationships, and decisions that matter in the context of gameplay,” Wilson said. “And I think it’s been that return to what made BioWare great and giving the studio time to deliver against what makes BioWare great in the context of the Dragon Age world is what amounts to Dragon Age: The Veilguard.”
