Well good news for Bioware fans, despite the failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s marketing campaign it looks like we’re finally getting some news for the latest edition in the long running Dragon Age series with the release trailer for The Veilguard revealing that the game will come out in about two months on October 31st, 2024.
But the reveal date isn’t the only thing the trailer shows us. This trailer is much closer to the dour and intense tone Dragon Age has cultivated over the years in the actual game over the upbeat superhero-esque feel of the previous trailer. But more importantly than that, every Dragon Age fan and their mother will recognize the iconic voice of Claudia Black reprising her role as the Witch of the Wilds, Morrigan, a beloved character from Dragon Age: Origins and one that Dragon Age faithful will be happy to see back.
Morrigan’s appearance in this game is surprising, to say the least. There are a few ways that Morrigan’s tale can end in Dragon Age: Origins, and then there are a few ways that Morrigan’s tale can end in her return during Dragon Age: Inquisition too, so her appearance here will have to take into account around a decade plus of choices that players have been making across the Dragon Age franchise.
Of course, Morrigan’s big decision in Inquisition mainly revolves around whether or not she inherited the power of her mother Flemeth, which the player character the Inquisitor can do instead. With the Inquisitor rumored to return in Veilguard similar to how Dragon Age 2’s Hawke return in Inquisition, Morrigan and the Inquisitor will likely play plot relevant but small roles in Veilguard similar to Alistair and Loghain in Inquisition.
But this is all speculation. For now, every Dragon Age fan is probably just happy to have their in-game wife Morrigan back, and also happy to have an official release date for a game that has been over a decade in the making. Dragon Age: The Veilguard has a lot of expectations to live up to, and hopefully it’s up to the task.
