DOTA 2 International Championship Sells Out

If you’re planning to attend the upcoming 2014 Dota 2 International Championship, you might have a little trouble getting tickets, as all 10,000 seats have been sold out, according to Valve.

The event, which will take place at Seattle’s Key Arena from July 18 to 21, sold out completely about an hour after tickets went on sale on April 4 at 15:00 PT, according to Valve’s Doug Lombardi.

Latecomers seeking tickets will have to forage for them in places like eBay, where tickets are being sold at significantly higher prices. Originally, a four day ticket would cost $99 for general admission, $199 for floor seating, and $499 for VIP seating. One particular floor seating ticket on eBay is currently going for $750.

Of course, those wishing not to fork over hundreds of dollars for a ticket  can always watch the event as it is broadcasted online, free of charge.

This year’s International will host 11 teams invited directly. In addition, four regional qualifiers will take place between May 12 and May 25. Winners of each of those qualifiers will be invited, while four runner-ups will compete in Seattle for the final slot.

All the teams will be competing for a prize pool whose size will be determined by an Interactive Compendium, in which the number of players who buy a Compendium increases the prize money. Currently, the prize pool stands at $2,874,380, and is well on its way to achieving its $3.2 million goal.

Last year’s International saw Swedish team Alliance winning a grand prize of $1.4 million, while the runner up, Ukranian team Na’vi, won $632,000.
