After months of speculation, rumors, and lore-bending theories, Doomfist is finally coming to Overwatch as the game’s newest playable hero. Doomfist has been added to the Overwatch Public Test Region in a new patch today, alongside some small updates to the game’s Loot Box and Highlight systems. The official PlayOverwatch YouTube channel released a new, crisply-animated video short today that explores the backstory of Doomfist, as well as his relationship to some of the game’s fan-favorite characters, namely Tracer, Genji, and Winston.
Doomfist is an offense hero, and plays as a highly-mobile frontline fighter. He has modest ranged attack capabilities with a short-range Hand Cannon blast from his fist’s knuckles, and can pull enemies closer to him with a ground-smashing Seismic Slam. He can knock enemies up into the air with is Rising Uppercut, or slam them back into a wall with his lunging Rocket Punch. He can maintain survivability in crossfire with his passive ability that generates temporary personal shields when he deals ability damage, and with his ultimate Meteor Strike he leaps into the air and slams into the ground, dealing significant AOE damage to any enemies in the affected area.
As they always do with new heros and major announcements, the Overwatch dev team have released another Developer Update video to go more in-depth on Doomfist’s history, abilities, and playstyle. Get your fill of Jeff Kaplan’s soothing voice below:
