The long-awaited game, Tell Me Why is finally releasing its first chapter on August 27th. Developed by Dontnod Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios, the game will be for Xbox One, Windows 10, and available for download on Steam. Though the game has a few more weeks until its release of the first chapter, some information about the game has already been made public. The game, though, is like no other adventure game. Game Director Florent Guillaume states he would like players to relate and find meaning with the characters as they play.
As for the storyline, the game revolves around two main characters/twins, Tyler and Alyson Ronan. They reunite in 10 years after their mother’s death and are determined to unravel the mysteries of their loving yet troubled childhood in the fictional town of Delos Crossing, Alaska. In addition, the twins possess a secret bond that allows them to interact with and recollect their past memories. Through these interactions, players will unravel the mystery of their deceased mother and learn what exactly happened in their childhood.
The game, however, is mainly focused on the unique storyline and gameplay. One of the twins, Tyler, is a transgender male, who “was important to understand the transgender community, their struggle, and what they live and go through,” stated in an interview with Dontnod Game Director Florent Guillaume. “When we started with this idea, we thought it was great, it was [a story] we wanted to tell, it made sense for the story and the characters,” continued Guillaume. “We didn’t want to shy away from that and the difficulty of doing it.” In addition, the game focuses on different outcomes determined by the players’ actions. As they interact with the characters’ childhood memories, players can strengthen the relationship between the twins and shape their future through each adventure. Players will, therefore, immerse themselves in the perspective of a transgender character – educating them more about the LGBTQ community.
