Doki Doki Literature Club Plus Releases this Week

After its’ release in late 2017, to say that Doki Doki Literature Club broke the internet would be an understatement. The game blended cutesy, romantic visual novel-like design with deeply rooted psychological horror in a way that simply shouldn’t work– and yet it absolutely does. You’d be forgiven for missing out on it upon release, though, considering that the game’s ad campaign marketed it as a basic visual novel about writing poetry with the occasional warning about… unnerving material. If you did miss this crazy game, you’re in luck, because Doki Doki Literature Club Plus is coming out this week.

Not only does the second release give new players a chance to (literally) jump into the world of Doki Doki Literature Club, but it also brings plenty of new content for old fans to enjoy. Literature Club Plus updates all the in-game visuals to full HD (1080p), which is much appreciated considering that the update also adds six brand new side stories. These new stories will detail the relationships between the different girls and explain how the literature club got started during the hours of new story content.

It’ll also contain over a hundred unlockable images which players can collect and look through in the game’s photo album. This photo album will include wallpapers and in-game art, as well as concept art that has yet to ever release. This never-before-seen content will be exclusive to Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, so if you want everything the game has to offer, you’ll have to pick up the latest version.

Players will also be able to look through the music of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, which will include every song from the first game along with thirteen brand new songs, doubling the song list for a total of twenty-six. The in-game music player will also allow players to build their own playlists from the album or even loop a single song continuously.

Along with the update, the game will be getting a physical release for the first time ever on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5. This update will release on June 30th. You can check out the official website here.
