Dinoblade has officially released on Steam today, and has already garnered a good amount of reviews for an indie game. Developed by Team Spino LLC, the game was originally just a concept, created by Jean Nguyen when he uploaded an animation of a spinosaurus wielding a hulking greatsword in its mouth. Four years of development later, that spinosaurus has become the poster child of this action RPG.
Dinoblade is a souls-like action RPG set in a prehistoric world filled with dinosaurs, some of which wielding weapons of their own like the previously mentioned spinosaurus. The concept is very original and unique on its own, to the point where Jean Nguyen decided to develop the concept into a full-fledged game. While this project has been in the works for a while, the game’s official release on Steam has allowed the indie game to receive a number of reviews, most of which praising the game.
The general consensus of the players is that Dinoblade is a very unique idea, some fans even being fans of Nguyen’s work since the original test animation that inspired the whole game. The music behind the game is also praised, many of the positive reviews describing how much they enjoyed the opening theme or boss music. Players have also enjoyed the dinosaur models and designs as a whole, between the actual models and the “coolness” of certain boss fights.
Thoughts on Dinoblade’s gameplay are viewed highly as well, many being satisfied with the combat system and the boss fights in particular. The only real criticism that stood out in these reviews is that the game felt buggy and choppy at times, but many players are still recommending the game in spite of that. While the game may still need updating to provide a smoother experience, it’s evident that Dinoblade is a passion project with hard work poured into it.
