Developed for PC by solo creator James Bendon, Dinkum found great success in the indie gaming community following its July 2022 release. Dinkum is a life-simulation game heavily inspired by the landscapes and wildlife unique to Australia. Players are encouraged to farm, fish, craft, and explore the rugged environment. As of November 2024, the game has received over 18,000 user reviews on Steam, with 94% being positive, earning it “Very Positive” rating. Game Rant describes Dinkum as an Australian counterpart to familiar cozy games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.
A new game is coming to mobile devices based off of Brendon’s Dinkum, called Dinkum Together. The game is currently under development by Krafton, who recently released a cinematic trailer showcasing its open-world features. Posted to YouTube on November 7, the trailer introduces viewers to a charming girl in an oversized hat who is out searching for butterflies. Her pursuit is suddenly interrupted by a kangaroo who carries a blue butterfly away on its head. She chases after the kangaroo, narrowly a avoiding an open-mouthed crocodile, until she bursts through the leafy clearing and discovers a vast, arid desert. The chase continues in the beautiful Australian environment, with the butterfly ironically leaving the kangaroo behind altogether.
This trailer follows previous one released on November 1st, in which Krafton reveals brief snippets of Dinkum Together’s gameplay. Players work together in the video, chopping down trees, crafting tents, farming, fishing, and even attacking fearsome crocodiles. The gameplay trailer also serves as an official G-Star 2024 announcement, informing viewers that the game “will be featured at South Korea’s largest game show.” The debut is set to last between November 14 and 17. Attendees are encouraged to participate in events at the Busan, Korea-based gaming exhibition to win exclusive merchandise, and will be able to interact with popular influencers through live quiz shows and gaming sessions.
Developers have not yet announced whether Dinkum Together will be free-to-play or not, but the game will be available on both iOS and Android following its official release. It is currently set to launch sometime in December 2025. Those interested in the cozy life-sim can stay up to date on the game’s development through its official website and Discord server.
