The Open Beta of Battlefield V has come to a close and DICE is now discussing their plans going forward until launch and what was learned from players. The statistics from the public’s participation in the Beta are impressive, with percentages detailing the most popular classes and destruction.
In war, ammunition and health are limited, so the studio is attempting to balance each to enhance player immersion. Certain weapons will spawn with more or less ammo and there may be a possibility of players spawning with one health pack per life, though this has not been confirmed. Also, several supply stations will be removed to add more chances to score construction points and increase additional activity in a fight. Something immediately noticeable by Beta players was the change in visibility and that enemies did not have red “tortilla chips” hovering over their heads. The system is now completely dependent on self-identifying a friend from a foe or taking advantage of the Recon Class’s spotting perk.
Besides the typical bug fixes, DICE is tweaking the Time to Kill and Time to Death. A player’s bleeding out phase, once downed, will have a smaller time frame and if you spent more time bleeding out then the waiting period before the next spawn will be shorter. Time to Death is affected by numerous variables in a match such as bullet separation, which will be adjusted before the official release along with other factors. These changes are justified by DICE because of the ensuing madness that would be caused from immediate respawns.
The Battlefield franchise is famous for its enormous infantry skirmishes and, of course, intense vehicle combat. More vehicles are being teased to roll into battle and the “systemic damage” implemented in Battlefield games will continue, but will not leave tank pilots defenseless against enemies once a portion of their vehicle is destroyed. Pilots in the air will be receiving improved visibility by extending its range so that the historic battles that players will be participating in transitions seamlessly from ground to air.
