Diablo IV has officially launched today, and Blizzard has announced it’s set a new personal record for the gaming company. Diablo IV is now the fastest-selling game Blizzard has ever launched, and that success will likely grow even more in the weeks, months, and years ahead. While Blizzard has not provided any solid numbers exactly how many players have bought the title, they said the numbers come solely from the early access period for Deluxe or Ultimate edition players which began on June 1st. Blizzard however did indicate that over 93 million hours of playtime was recorded in the early access period alone— in perspective that’s over 10,000 years.
“We’re extremely proud to offer players the richest story ever told in a Diablo game. Players have a range of choices, including personal character customization, equipping personalized skills for battling horrific demons, or collecting Legendary loot to support your playstyle while discovering new ones.” Rod Fergusson, general manager of Diablo said in a press release statement today of the record-selling news.

“With highly customizable gameplay, gripping storytelling, and plenty of options around how to engage with the world, this masterfully crafted expression of the Diablo universe is an outstanding example of what our talented development teams are capable of. Whether you’re a veteran of the series or diving into Sanctuary for the first time, we welcome players to the global launch of Diablo IV.”
The record-selling news can also be attributed to Diablo IV releasing on PC and consoles, with the last release from Blizzard simultaneously launching in 2016 with Overwatch. Diablo IV has been widely praised by fans and reviewers currently boasting an 87 on Metacritic. There have been thousands of streams of Diablo IV, from speed runs to end-game exploration that have furthered the popularity of Diablo IV, especially to a younger audience.
Diablo IV now has two expansions currently being developed and will be given updates and additional content in the years to come.
Diablo IV is currently available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
