Recently, Blizzard Entertainment discussed the upcoming mobile game Diablo Immortal and its tentative development in their Q1 earnings report. The game was originally announced in late 2018 at BlizzCon, and the game is being developed by Blizzard Entertainment and the Chinese game developer NetEase. Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play MMOARPG for Android and iOS devices that will allow old and new players alike to take the Diablo universe on the go.
In the Diablo storyline, Diablo Immortal takes place between Diablo II and Diablo III. There are six unique character classes–barbarian, monk, wizard, demon hunter, crusader, and necromancer–from which players can choose, and they can make several customizable characters to play as during the game. As characters level up, they can unlock different skills and abilities. There will also be multiplayer activities where players can play to in groups of up to four players to journey dungeons together.
Activision Blizzard in their Q1 statements they are excited about the mobile Diablo game because they are bringing the Diablo story to a whole new market of players. With the success of the Call of Duty Mobile and Crash Bandicoot: On the Run, the Activision Blizzard team wanted to continue this trend with Diablo.
There is currently a closed alpha for the game for Android users, and after a couple of closed alpha releases, the developers have already made changes and improvements to the mobile game. Diablo Immortal is the first of three upcoming Diablo titles. The second Diablo 2: Resurrected is a remaster of Diablo II which was released in 2000. Players have also been eagerly awaiting Diablo IV since its reveal at BlizzCon 2019. During BlizzConline, Blizzard shared the first look at the rogue class for the game.
