Devil May Cry V Surpasses 5 Million Units Sold

It looks like yet another one of Capcom’s franchises have reached an impressive milestone. This time it’s the stylish hack and slasher Devil May Cry, with the emphasis being on the latest entry, Devil May Cry V. The company has announced that the title 2019 title has now sold more than 5 million copies worldwide, officially surpassing Devil May Cry 4’s 4.8 million statistic. These new numbers are from Capcom directly and not any other sort of statistical publication, but considering the success that Devil May Cry V had when it came out, it’s not surprising to see it reach this plateau in just a couple of years time.

The game, which launched in March 2019, was considered by many fans to be a true return to the Devil May Cry aesthetic, as the previous entry, the rebooted DMC: Devil May Cry, had a bit of a mixed reception. This also released right in the middle of Capcom’s resurgence, which began with the absolute juggernaut that was Monster Hunter: World in 2018. Since then, the company has been on a serious tear, and Devil May Cry V was just one of many reasons why they became relevant again.

The company also re-released the title in 2020 as Devil May Cry V: Special Edition which was a digital-only release for the brand new PlayStation 5 the Xbox Series X|S. The Special Edition gave the game a major graphical and performance upgrade, allowing the frames to go up as high as 120 per second. It also introduced another playable character, Virgil, a staple in the franchise and beloved by many fans. Either way you look at it, this is an impressive milestone for the title to reach in just three years, especially with all of the other amazing titles that Capcom has been putting out at the same time. Hopefully, they haven’t forgotten about the series and have some more information for us in the foreseeable future.
