Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the latest entry in the highly acclaimed FPS/RPG franchise. The game takes place after the events of Human Revolution. Two years after the “Aug Incident”made augmented humans become uncontrollable and lethally violent, they’ve become outcasts from the rest of society. Adam Jensen returns from the previous game as he tries to stop augmented terrorists while also going after an anti-augmentation group called the Illuminati. So far, Mankind Divided has been critically well-received with publications such as IGN giving the game glowing 9.2/10 and Time Magazine awarding the game with a 4.5/5.
However, according to Polygon, Mankind Divided is facing criticism towards its PC port. Steam reviews have been very mixed with many users giving it a “not recommended” score. Below is a quote from the aforementioned reviews:
Game has weird mouse acceleration that cannot be turned off and on top of that the X/Y speeds are different,” one player noted in the Steam reviews. “Not letting players turn these things off even in .ini file or registry is beyond obnoxious, this game is the worst example of bad mouse inputs i have ever seen [sic]
The developer reached out to fans on Steam to help remedy these problems. They gave out few suggestions to help with performance including updating drivers, using 1080p resolution, turning off contact hardening shadows and more. Gamespot reports that Eidos Montreal also released a patch to try to resolve some of the problems. However, these fixes mostly apply to crashes rather than performance issues.
Aside from performance issues, fans also took issue with the micro-transactions in the game. One steam reviewer writes “I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS. THESE MICROTRANSACTIONS, I MEAN. [sic]” According to Polygon, fans also scrutinized the decision to limit pre-order items to one save slot. Once players use them, they’re gone, and no subsequent playthrough will feature those items.
