Eidos Montreal, the developer behind Deus Ex: Mankind has recently announced that it will now focus more of it’s resources towards online gaming. Studio head David Anfossi made the announcement that the developer would be “placing an added emphasis on the online experiences in our games,” within a “new vision statement.”
“At Eidos-Montréal, we’re constantly working towards creating innovative and exciting experiences for gamers everywhere. In turn, we are placing an added emphasis on the online experiences in our games, striving to continually provide players with content that is memorable and impactful.”
The studio has also been making preparations for the shift by hiring lead multiplayer programmer, and also by making adjustments to it’s DAWN engine to be better suited for online games. Sébastien Bessette, director of online technology stated that “All of these efforts unify our teams towards one single goal, that being to deliver the best online gaming experience to our players.”
Although Square Enix and Eidos Montreal are already exploring options for the next installment within the Deus Ex series, Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda stated last month that it wasn’t exactly at the top of their to do list at the moment and that “some titles have to wait their turn.” Eidos Montreal is currently hard at work on the Avengers project along with Crystal Dynamics.
This announcement may serve as a hint that whenever the Avengers project is fully revealed then it will sport quite a few online features. Whatever the case may be lets hope they still put forward the same effort within the single player portion of the game.
