Detailed E3 Demo of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

After last year’s masterful Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Naughty Dog has wasted no time and is releasing a follow-up entitled, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Built all within the same mechanics that made Uncharted 4, this sequel is without the Drake family and focuses on two different characters met along the various installments of the Uncharted, Chloe Frazer and Shoreline leader Nadine Ross. At SONY’s press conference a trailer was shown exhibiting the various elements of the game. In a private theater, at the SONY booth we got to see a long segment of Ross and Frazer’s journey. It’s evident right away that this is best described as more content in the already excellent world and engine created for Uncharted 4. The duo reach the top of a precipice and are greeted by a sprawling horizon amidst mountaintops and a gigantic carving of the Hindu god Ganesha in the mountainside.

They then grapple, climb and hook swing through the landscape into they run face first into an array of gun-toting baddies. Ross and Frazer work as a team much akin to the Drake brothers in the game’s last entry, pulling enemies off ledges, assaulting them expertly with machine guns and taking them out in nimble melee, hand-to-hand combat. All the while, similar to Uncharted 4’s best sequence, the two women are methodically stalked by an armor plated mega truck, ripping through everything in sight while laying out a blanket of bullets in every direction. They narrowly escape into the temple they’ve been making their way to.

Gameplay shifts then to the two investigating the temple, searching for the way down to the treasure they are hunting. Investigation of the surroundings gives them evidence that human torture (or maybe even sacrifices) were conducted here ages ago. They repel into an adjacent barred cell, and then climb out to discover a path running in parallel to an ancient aqueduct. As they make for an exit, the armored truck bursts through the wall and the game’s main villain Asav and his men beat the two women into submission. The trailer ends with Asav leveling a pistol at Chloe’s face. It may not be a revolution of function or framework, but it’s sure to be another stellar game in the Uncharted series.
