Destiny’s Servers Going Down To Prepare For New Content

Destiny will be seeing a new update next week on Playstation 4 and Xbox One, while at the same time they plan to do some general server maintenance. Update 2.4.0 will arrive on September 8th along with the server maintenance which is expected to last around eight hours.

In the Bungie news post they discussed the update with limited details, not yet revealing all that it will entail. They did however say that the servers will be going down September 8th from 8am PT to 4pm PT. There will also be limited functionality with Bungie.net and the Destiny Companion App. Players will be able to begin downloading the update once the servers come back online.

Destiny Clan features will also take a hit as Bungie stated that they would be down, “In  preparation for in-game Clan Roster functionality.”

Update 2.4.0 will also be making some changes with how players obtain Sterling Treasure. “Starting September 8th 2016, Players may only acquire one Sterling Treasure per week, through the Level 41 Prison of Elders playlist.” When Destiny: Rise of Iron comes out on September 20th the Eververse Trading Co. will stop selling Sterling Treasure for Silver. The plan is to replace Sterling Treasure with Radiant Treasures, which will contain Silver Dust and new Ornaments.

Bungie has given directions on how players can better prepare for the the update in order to allow things to run more smoothly. In their post they came up with a few things that players should do:

  • Please ensure that you have the proper amount of space available to accept Update 2.4.0.
  • Interrupting downloads may force all previous content to be re-downloaded on some consoles.
  • Some consoles will attempt to verify all previously downloaded content before downloading Update 2.4.0. If any issues are found, or the verification process is interrupted, all previous content will be deleted and downloaded once more.
