After seven years of content, it’s not controversial to say that Destiny 2 has become one of the most popular Looter Shooters to ever hit the market. Just in the last 30 days, the game has averaged over 90,000 consecutive players on Steam alone, and the brand new Witch Queen expansion is releasing soon, so there’s no doubt that the game still has and will maintain quite the player-base. These players have come and stayed for plenty of reasons, but one of the most unique is the game’s fashion. This might come as a surprise for readers who haven’t played any Destiny 2, but the game is actually chock-full of cool armor sets and neat color schemes to equip, and with five distinct armor slots (one of which is class-specific) and hundreds of different shaders, there’s really no end to the crazy creativity players can show off. In support of their community, Bungie has unveiled “Threads of Light,” a digital fashion magazine featuring the best outfits players have cobbled together.
The idea of showing off armors isn’t a new one: Just check r/DestinyFashion, which has been operating since 2015. “Threads of Light” is nowhere close to the first collection of Destiny 2 fashion, but it is the first official one! This announcement is perfectly timed, too, since shaders (the method guardians use to color their armors) have recently gotten a massive overhaul. In an official blog post, the development team announced that shaders would become permanent unlocks instead of consumables. The team also announced a streamlined “appearance customization” screen that will allow guardians to change either their entire look or just a single piece of armor with the click of a button.
This change massively cut down on grinding for specific looks and opened up the world of Destiny 2 fashion to so many more players. No longer does finding a great look requires hours of grinding for five of the same shader, nor will players have to suffer accidentally using a shader they planned to apply elsewhere, which means that even if you’re brand new to the scene, there’s still plenty of ways to make your guardian look exactly how you want them to.
Sadly, there’s been no official announcement yet on how players can submit their looks to “Threads of Light,” but that just means players will have plenty of time to perfect their looks before sending them out into the world. Good luck!
