Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Team Lazerbeam have released two new trailer for their first-person, roguelike double-deck building game Shroom and Gloom. Gematsu reports that the title is set for launch on PC this year and that a demo is currently available.
Shroom and Gloom is set in a dark, underground dungeon overrun with sentient mushrooms; it mutates them into hostile enemies. Players are equipped with a deck of cards, with your goal to battle your way through the dungeon and escape.
Shared by Free Lives, Ben of development group Team Lazerbeam shares that “Shroom and Gloom started out as a Jam game that we made for the 7-Day FPS Jam in 2021 and Evan. I decided we wanted to try and make a first person deck builder inspired by games like slay the spire and inscription and usually those games have Parts where you play cards to kind of fight monsters and then there’s in between exploration sections. We were like wouldn’t it be cool if you were seeing everything from the perspective of the player seeing these cards going out your hands and seeing your like abilities playing on these creatures but also that you’d be able to build up a second deck of cards which would dictate how you can explore through these different spaces”
Shroom and Gloom contains 26 tunnels where you’ll fight off enemies and bosses and features three unique playing styles. Shroom and Gloom also features a cooking system where you’ll feed on defeated enemies and make soups with special effects.
Team Lazerbeam have aimed to blend an evolving deck building system with classic dungeon crawling. Experimentation is the focal point here in this world’s dark setting. Fans of roguelikes may have found something new to look forward to in Shroom and Gloom.
